The talks are still raging about Saturday’s All Progressives Congress (APC) congresses staged in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Ogun – like many other states – say the emergence of two sets of executives of the APC.

While the faction loyal to Governor Dapo Abiodun held its congress hit free the MKO Abiola Stadium, the drama played out at Ake, within the compound housing the palace of the Alake of Egbaland Oba Adedotun Gbadebo.

The palace ground hosted the congress of the APC faction loyal to former Governor – now Senator – Ibikunle Amosun.

Societynow.ng gathered that on the claims of “threats to peace’’ in the state, the police shut down the venue of the Ake congress.

“This would have effectively prevented the emergence of parallel executives and handed total control of the APC to the Governor Abiodun faction.” Societynow.ng learned.

Governor Abiodun as the biggest beneficiary of the move was fingered as making the push.

‘But the shutdown didn’t last, Amosun who has everything to lose pulled all his strings and got the place re-opened plus police protection throughout the congress” further digs revealed.

Amosun’s influence was further shored with the backing of the two other Senators in Ogun state, Ramoni Lekan Mustapha (Ogun East) and Tolu Odebiyi (Ogun West) who sided with him against Governor Abiodun.

Societynow.ng gathered that before the police shut down turned protection power play, there had been a brief but fierce clash between thugs backing either side.

The talks are that it was on the strength of this street fight that the shutdown of the Ake congress over threats to public peace was made – before it was turned into police protection by Amosun and his men.

The unfolding drama which has resulted in two parallel state executives for APC in Ogun state is part of an unrelenting supremacy fight that erupted between Senator Amosun, 63, and Governor Abiodun, 61 before the 2019 gubernatorial election.
