Osinbajo Silent As Senator “Yayi” Tries To Help Gov Abiodun Over Control Of Ogun APC

Amosun is leveraging to make peace and consolidate his political might

The struggle over who controls the structure of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State is still raging.

A leaked list of about-to-be announced state Chairmen of APC across the country by the National Headquarters put the party structure in Ogun State firmly in the hands of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his group.

The list which hit the town on Friday, December 10, 2021, has the name of Derin Odebiyi, the state party chairman elected at the congress held by the Amosun political family at Ake, Abeokuta (Ogun State) on October 16, 2021.

While the Dapo Abiodun camp openly disputed the list – because it does not contain the name of Yemi Sanusi, the party chairman elected at its congress held at MKO Stadium, Abeokuta on October 16-, SocietyNow.Ng gathered there were underground moves to ensure a “favorable list” is officially released.

Senator Adeola “Yayi”

Lagos Senator Solomon Adeola – widely known as Yayi – who is heavily campaigning to become a Senator in Ogun State in 2023 reportedly spearheaded the move with two appointees of Governor Abiodun as “sidekicks”.

They reportedly met a “brick wall”.

Senator Yayi whose political structure heavily benefited from appointments made by Governor Abiodun – to the anger of other political groups that helped Abiodun to power in 2019 – was said to have reached out to Mai Mala Buni, the Caretaker National Chairman of the APC who was not “forthcoming”.

“Other moves were also made, the bottom line is that they were told the decision has been made, and they should go home (Ogun state) to settle the matter with the Amosun camp” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added information has it that, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo who also played a major role in the 2019 gubernatorial election that gifted power to Abiodun was also approached but “he has remained silent”.

SocietyNow.Ng learned that Vice President Osinbajo has been silent on the struggle for control of the APC structure in Ogun state before the latest development.

“Though he helped Abiodun to power, Osinbajo has refused to fight the Governor’s battle for him since the latter formed a cabinet that favored just one out of the many political groups that helped him to power among other alleged issues” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Vice President Osinbajo

Abiodun was brought to power through a combination of political forces that included that of big players like Otunba Gbenga Daniel, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, Solomon Olamilekan Adeola(Yayi), Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, Bimbo Ashiru and Muyiwa Oladipo with Vice President Osinbajo running interference with President Muhammadu Buhari in a cohesive move labeled one of the best political plays in recent time.

The Yayi group – which is a veil for the expanding political interest of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinbu – served as Abiodun’s primary entry point into the 2019 Ogun gubernatorial race, and ended up getting a lion share of the appointments made by the Governor against strong advice that all “political interests” that helped him to power should be taken care of.

The appointments caused plenty of disaffection that runs deep that Amosun is leveraging to make peace and consolidate his political might, especially as Lagos Senator Yayi intensifies campaign to take up the same position in Ogun in 2023 amid claims of an agreement to succeed Abiodun as Governor in 2027.

Added revelations have it that, there are strong indications that the “go home and settle it” feedback gotten by Abiodun’s emissaries to the National Headquarters of the APC over the leaked list will result in harmonization of the party leadership – and members list- in Ogun state.

“There are already talks of something like that in offing because of the need to keep the party together ahead of the 2023 election, particularly the presidential election but it is obvious who has the upper as things stand” SocietyNow.Ng learned.
