They are on conflicting sides

Gubernatorial candidates Ladi Adebutu and Dapo Abiodun have switched roles in their separate fights with Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

They are on conflicting sides over who becomes the next Governor of Ogun State.

Adebutu is the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 gubernatorial election in Ogun State while Governor Abiodun is seeking re-election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Amosun a former governor of Ogun State from 2011 to 2019 is opposed to both Adedibu and Abiodun becoming the next governor of Ogun State.

Amosun

Amosun adopted the same posture in the election that brought up Abiodun to power in 2019, though he ended up working with Adebutu who was canceled from the gubernatorial race by late Kashamu Buruji with a last-minute court ruling.

The court pronounced Kashamu as the recognized candidate of the PDP for the 2019 Ogun state gubernatorial election at the eleventh hour and the “candidate” pledged support to Abiodun and outwitted Adebutu backed Adekunle Akilade the gubernatorial candidate sponsored by Amosun on the platform of another political party Allied People’s Movement (APM).

Amosun’s candidate lost the election and the former Governor openly kept the offensive against Governor Abiodun who refused to publicly engage him.

Adebutu is accused of openly going against Amosun by allegedly hijacking the APM structure after the former Governor’s followers planted in the party returned to the APC to help him in the fight against Abiodun.

The PDP gubernatorial candidate went further by wooing over the former governor’s supporters including Akinlade who has been made the deputy governorship candidate of the PDP in a major breakaway from Amosun.

Abiodun

Adebutu’s move at a time Amosun needs all the support he could muster weakened the former Governor’s support base and foiled his attempt to sponsor an alternative candidate against Abiodun on the platform of the APM.

But despite these alleged sins, Adebutu has publicly maintained a reconciliatory stance towards Amosun.

‘He recently branded Amosun as his leader in continuing attempt to maintain a air of great rapport with SIA (Senator Ibikunle Amosun) while he continues to court his followers and woo them over” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

However, Governor Abiodun unlike Adebutu has openly gone on the offensive against Amosun.

Abiodun and his aides now go toe to toe with Amosun and his men in public attacks with government communications now magnifying the “established and perceived” missteps of the former governor, especially while in charge of the affairs of Ogun state.

” Ogun begins compensation payment for properties demolished by Amosun”, the self-explanatory headline of a press statement issued by the Abiodun administration on August 28, 2022, explaining that the Governor “has approved that the compensation payment should commence to alleviate the sufferings of those affected” by the administration of Senator Ibikunle Amosun’s demolition of properties ” to pave way for the expansion of some road projects across the state” is a perfect window into Abiodun’s new stance against Amosun.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that Abiodun is emboldened in this move by the increasing number of Amosun’s men flushing into his camp after he took over the structure of APC in Ogun state from the former Governor.

Abiodun’s loyalists and those with ties to him hold the tickets to all elective positions for the 2023 election in Ogun state.

Amosun made it easier for Abiodun by openly declaring that the Governor who is the candidate of his party for the 2023 election “must go” without a formidable alternative to go against the incumbent governor.

“But just like Amosun, D.A (Dapo Abiodun) and his team are getting it wrong with their stance. They won’t get the die-hard Amosun supporters with major political influence to join or really work for them by demonizing the former governor at every turn, Adebutu who is doing as much damage to Amosun’s support base is in a stronger position to achieve that with his public reconciliatory approach. And even more likely to get those who have even switched to Abiodun’s side to work against the governor. That’s the psychology of loyalty, especially among supporters of those with a fanatic following like Amosun. The pressure of a better tomorrow may make them switch camps but will always be willing to work for those they perceive as treating and having better respect for their leader” SocietyNow.Ng gathered,
