Ladi Adebutu, the governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun state has announced his deputy governorship candidate.

Adebutu named Abdulkadir Adekunle Akinlade, the preferred governorship candidate of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun for the 2019 election.

The development validates the report by highstreet.ng that Akinlade –  more popularly known as ‘triple-A” – dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) a couple of weeks ago for the PDP to pick up the deputy governorship ticket.

In 2019, Amosun moved Akinlade – and some of his loyalists – from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Allied People’s Movement (APM) in a failed attempt to make him a successor.

Dapo Abiodun, ferociously backed by an alliance of political structures against Amosun won the election, and Akinlade and others rejoined the APC after the former’s inauguration.

The staunch loyalist of Amosun declared his interest in becoming the gubernatorial candidate of the APC for the 2023 election but had his ambition dead on arrival with the nonrecognition of the Amosun-led faction of the APC ( that he belongs) by the national leadership of the party.

With Governor Abiodun retaining the APC gubernatorial ticket in Ogun state, Akinlade left the party and joined the PDP where he has been made the deputy governorship candidate.
