addressed concerns surrounding the succession process
Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has assured the people of Ijebuland that a new Awujale will emerge before May 29, 2027.
Abiodun gave the assurance on Tuesday at the Ogun East Senatorial District stakeholders’ meeting in Ijebu-Ode, where he addressed concerns surrounding the succession process for the revered traditional stool.
The governor said his administration was committed to ensuring a smooth, peaceful and acceptable process for selecting the next monarch.
He acknowledged the importance of the Awujale institution to the cultural heritage, identity and unity of Ijebuland, urging the people to remain calm and patient as the necessary processes were concluded.
Abiodun said the government was giving the matter the attention it deserved to ensure that the emergence of a new monarch enjoyed the acceptance and support of the people.
He also used the meeting to highlight the economic prospects of Ogun East, citing emerging oil exploration activities around Eba Island and the proposed Gateway Deep-Sea Port in Ogun Waterside Local Government Area as major drivers of development.
According to him, the projects, alongside the proposed Blue Marine Special Economic Zone, would attract investments, create jobs and strengthen the state’s position in maritime business and international trade.
The governor expressed optimism that the developments would expand opportunities for local businesses and improve residents’ livelihoods.
He also acknowledged the support of President Bola Tinubu’s administration for infrastructure and development initiatives in the state, calling for sustained cooperation between both levels of government.
Representatives of market men and women, hunters, Baales and Olorituns commended Abiodun for engaging grassroots stakeholders and pledged support for the All Progressives Congress and its candidates in the forthcoming general elections.
