Details available to societynow.ng revealed that after taking charge of the three most volatile but highly lucrative spots in Lagos State – Lagos Island, Ijora, and Oshodu – as branch chairmen, the three friends, Seego(Mustapha Adekunle), MC Oluomo (Musliu Akinsanya) and Kudety (Sulaimon Ojora) warmed their way to positions as Executive members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos state.

M C Oluomo secured the most significant position as Treasurer, Seego became one of the Auditors, and Kudety was appointed Ex-Officio.

The information available revealed that the Treasurer is the second most influential man in the NURTW power ladder.

Societynow.ng gathered the plan to make Oluomo the chairman of the transport association known simply as “Union” or “National” started as far back as 2007.

“MC Oluomo acting as the face of the trio contested for the position of Chairman against Olohunwa (Rafiu Akanni, the former NURTW chairman who grabbed headlines with heavy links to the murder case involving infamous confessed killer Ade Lawyer) but he stepped down based on negotiation’ societynow.ng learned.

The negotiation which made paved the way for Olohunwa’s emergence as NURTW State Chairman protected MC Oluomo and his friends’ positions as members of the state executive members.

With Olohunwa out of the country and battling the allegations of the infamous Ade Lawyer murder mess hanging on his neck, MC Oluomo backed by his friends threw his hat in the ring for the NURTW chairmanship contest of 2011.

But he had Tajudeen Agbede to contend with.

Agbede

Agbede was the man of the newly elected National President of the time Najeem Yasin.

Oluomo was and his crew was forced to another negotiation table.

“Because to contest for any position in the NURTW, you have to resign whatever post you hold, an agreement was reached that Agbede would take the Chairman position while MC and his crew retain their positions. A further agreement was reached that Agbede would back MC Oluomo as his successor” societynow.ng learned.

The information at hand, however, revealed that things went south before they even started.

“What makes the Treasurer very influential is that he is the purse of the association. He knows all about the funds that come in. It is the Chairman and the Treasurer that really run the association. The Vice-chairman and Auditor are co-opted into the affairs if they are in the good books of the Chairman. But Agbede sidelined MC Oluomo and started grooming someone very junior to them in power rankings as successor. That was how Kunle Poly (Kunle Lawal) came to be very relevant within the union” societynow.ng learned.

Societynow.ng gathered what made development stung MC Oluomo and his friends so much is that one of them (Seego) brought Kunle Poly into the union as one of his boys on the streets.

“To give Kunle Poly relevance, Agbede as state chairman created a branch out of Seego’s domain and made Kunle Poly branch chairman” societynow.ng learned.

The power invested in the NURTW chairman is very huge.

The power is said to be so much that whatever the chairman does, the response is always “Oga so pe” (The boss says), and his directive is carried out.

Societynow.ng learned that backed by this enormous influence Kunle Poly became a thorn in the flesh of Seego, MC Oluomo, and Kudety.

“Agbede couldn’t remove them as state executive members or branch members because individually they have a huge following in their bases and combined they are major threats to anybody. And as at that time, the trio has started having serious political backings with behind-the-scenes supports they offer” societynow.ng gathered.

The cat and mouse game between Agbede and the three friends continued until the 2015 NURTW election – and MC Oluomo and his crew miscalculated.

“Not knowing that a decision has been taken that all the nurtw state chairmen should be returned to office as part of the arrangement that gave National President Yasin a second term in office, Oluomo backed by his friends bought form to contest as Lagos state chairman against Agbede. And you know to do that he had to resign, by the time he realized his mistake it was too late, Agbede had slotted in another loyalist and didn’t stop at that, he ensured Seego and Kudety were also weeded out as state executive members” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed pressures from “political quarters”, however helped the trio to regain their seats.

Seego, MC Oluomo and Kudety

Insiders disclosed that with the three friends thrown out as NURTW executives in Lagos state, they went back to the drawing board and mapped out a long-term take-over once Agbede’s second term finishes.

“In the NURTW you can only occupy the position of state chairman for two terms but you can be an executive member for as long as you want. You can also be branch chairman for as long as you want if you remain in the right caucus” societynow.ng learned.

Inside information revealed from 2015 when they lost out and 2019 when they eventually took the throne, MC Oluomo and his friends made three strategic moves.

“They played it very close to the camp of the center of power in Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, they identified a possible successor to National President Yasin (Who is ineligible for another term ) and they lobbied other branch chairmen to their cause” societynow.ng learned.

All the moves played out for them.

Ibikunle Baruwa, the man they backed to become National President emerged winner against their foe Agbede who relied on Yasin to clinch the position.

Asiwaju Bola Tinubu gave his blessings for MC Oluomo to become Chairman in the face of possible breakdown of law and order over the refusal of Agbede to allegedly conduct a free and fair election.

Agbede was accused of staging a “parlor election” and installed Baba Ajilo – real name Michael Odungule – an old school unionist and branch chairman of Ojota as state Chairman.

The move, however, backfired as newly elected National President Baruwa ordered a return to the status quo.

And based on clearance from the shots caller in Lagos state MC Oluomo was named Caretaker Committee chairman since Agbede’s tenure has lapsed.

“Making MC Oluomo Caretaker committee chairman was a strong signal on what the establishment wanted, the election that came after that was a walkover. That move made it easy for all the branch men Oluomo and his people had courted over the years to easily all in kine and finally the friends took the throne they fought so hard for” societynow.ng learned.

With MC Oluomo elected Chairman in 2019, Seego became Treasurer and Kudety named Vice-Chairman.

The prize of the years of hard-fought battle is control of the Lagos state NURTW that is estimated to make billions of Naira in annual yields.
