Musiliu Akinsanya, the transport union boss famously known as MC Oluomo, is not letting go of his new position as the President of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).

MC Oluomo was elected as President of the transport union body a day after his predecessor, Ibikunle Baruwa, secured a Court of Appeal judgment affirming his continuing stay in office.

The new NURTW top man claimed ignorance of the Court of Appeal judgment while also asserting he is not a party to the case that resulted in the ruling.

Baruwa secured the Court of Appeal judgment on November 8, 2024, while MC Oluomo was elected on Saturday, November 9, 2024, and was sworn in on Monday, November 11, 2024.

MC Oluomo’s election was conducted by the southwest delegates of the NURTW, in line with the association’s guidelines—a foundation that Baruwa reportedly lacks in his pursuit of a second term.

In the face of widespread reports of his alleged ouster—and a trending video of his belongings allegedly being removed from office after just three days based on the Court of Appeal judgment secured by Baruwa—the new President made an emphatic declaration of his readiness to “tackle all challenges head-on” on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

MC Oluomo’s proclamation, issued amidst ferocious reports about the legitimacy of his NURTW Presidency and titled “IT’S TIME FOR NO DISTRACTIONS!” reads:

“Refocused. Recharged. Ready to Rock!

I’m back to work, primed to:
Tackle ALL challenges head-on
Crush my goals with precision and passion
Make today count with purpose and productivity

Opportunities, obstacles, successes – I’m ready!

Today’s mindset: FOCUSED, DRIVEN, UNSTOPPABLE

Watch me SOAR! – MC Oluomo”

He posted the message on his social media handle.

This move is the latest episode in the nearly three-year supremacy tussle between MC Oluomo and Baruwa, who enjoys the backing of the Joe Ajaero-led Nigerian Labour Congress in his bid to retain office for a second term.

Interestingly, MC Oluomo, who is the immediate past Chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the NURTW, helped Baruwa become the National President during his first term in 2019.
