Meet Man Being Touted To Take Over From 5th Term Reps Member Wole Oke

As the talks are growing, a coalition of political forces is coming together to deny Wole Oke another chance in the National Assembly.

Oke, who represents Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency, is on his fifth term as a federal legislator.

He has been in the Federal House of Representatives since 2003, missing out only during the 2011 to 2015 political dispensation.

But despite his long stay in the National Assembly and influence in local politics, some other stakeholders are demanding a fresh face as their representative in the green chamber.

And they have settled for Pelumi Olajengbesi, the lawyer who is widely recognized for his work in public interest and human rights activism.

Olajengbesi first declared his interest in the Oriade/Obokun Federal House of Representatives seat ahead of the 2019 election, and again for the 2023 election under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The lawyer publicly disclosed he was prevailed upon to step down for Oke for the 2023 House of Representatives ticket based on an understanding that the serving federal legislator wanted to use the tenure as a curtain-drawer.

But there are indications Oke wants another term, and Olajengbesi—who is the Convener of the Coalition of Public Interests Lawyers and Advocates (COPA)—is getting increasing support across Osun PDP caucuses to stop him.

Oke and Olajengbesi reportedly shared a cordial rapport until recent events attributed to their ambitions “changed things.”
