The viral message, presented as an “official note,” advised OPay customers to withdraw their funds ahead of an alleged indefinite break during which the company would not attend to transactions or account-related services.
However, OPay dismissed the message as false, urging customers to disregard it and verify information before sharing.
“OPay is not going on break by September. We’re here, and we’re going nowhere!” the company said.
The company also pointed out several red flags in the viral notice, including the use of an outdated or incorrect logo, incorrect spelling of its brand name and a design template that does not conform to its official communication format.
According to OPay, the notice also contained false information about the company suspending its operations.
“True OPay users know how to identify our official communications,” the company said, urging customers to “take a closer look at the viral post” and identify the inconsistencies.
The company advised customers to “always verify before you share,” while urging them to rely on its official communication channels for genuine updates.
The clarification comes amid the rapid circulation of the purported shutdown notice online, which could potentially cause concern among customers and users of the digital financial services platform.
OPay stressed that customers should “filter the noise” and follow its verified pages for authentic information concerning its services.
