Insiders have revealed the next move of Adekunle Akinlade, the estranged ally of the People’s Democratic Party ( PDP),  gubernatorial candidate for the 2023 Ogun state gubernatorial election.

“He will be taking up the gauntlet of the campaign for Yewa to produce the Governor of Ogun State. He has started the work underground, should be more visible in the coming days” according to informaton here and there.

It is yet to be confirmed whether he would be doing this as a gubernatorial aspirant or backing a more pronounced politican in the race.

Yewa, a low votes, area in Ogun West is yet to produce a Governor since the creation of Ogun State in February 1976.

Before he teamed up with Adebutu for the 2023 election, Akinlade came nearest to becoming the first person from Yewa to become Governor in 2019 – when he was backed by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun to become his successor.

Akinlade was the gubernatorial candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) for the 2019 that brought Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC)  to power.

He exited his alliance with Amosun after the election to team up with Adebutu for the 2023 election.

Akinlade was Adebutu’s running mate for the gubernatorial election.

They ran a comprehensively intensive campaign that almost handed them the reins of governance in ogun state, losing by less than fourteen votes to re-election seeking Governor Abiodun.

But in a sensational twist, rather build on the momentum for another push at taking over the government of ogun state – their alliance has collapsed with Akinlade publicly turning on Adebutu.

Akinlade reportedly made the move in reaction to an inevitable exit from the Adebutu political family, over claims that have to do with reducing relevance with roots in the PDP’s performance in the 2024 election.

The unraveling that forced Akinlade to leave the Adebutu political family, reportedly scattered the arrangement that was supposed to provide him the formidable political structure to help his region produce governor of the state for the first time – as the gubernatorial candidate.
