Adebutu Launches Ogun 2027 Guber Bid On PDP Platform
comes with the circulation of bold posters
Fresh political signals have emerged in Ogun State as loyalists of Oladipupo Adebutu have rolled out early campaign materials, confirming his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party.
The development comes with the circulation of bold posters bearing his image and the slogan “Itura Ogun Ti Dé,” alongside “OMO Ogun, Ẹ Dide.” The slogans, rendered in Yoruba, translate roughly to “Relief/Comfort has come to Ogun” and “People of Ogun, arise,” reflecting a message of hope, change and mass mobilisation ahead of the polls.
Adebutu, a former House of Representatives member, was the PDP governorship candidate in the 2023 election, where he mounted a strong challenge against incumbent governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress.
The contest was keenly fought, with Adebutu polling significant votes across key zones of the state and pushing the race to a level many observers described as one of the closest in Ogun’s recent political history.
Although he lost, his performance boosted his profile as a major opposition figure, consolidating support among grassroots voters, youths and sections of the political elite who saw his outing as a near upset.
Party sources say the early unveiling of campaign materials is part of a broader strategy to maintain momentum, rebuild structures and capitalise on the goodwill generated from the last election.
“This is not just about posters; it is about reawakening the base and letting people know he is in the race,” a chieftain of the party said.
Adebutu’s political journey has been shaped by years of grassroots engagement and philanthropy, particularly in rural communities where his empowerment programmes earned him visibility.
His supporters argue that these efforts, combined with his 2023 showing, position him as a formidable contender in the next cycle.
Meanwhile, the ruling APC is also tightening its ranks ahead of the contest. Party insiders confirm that Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has been adopted as a consensus candidate to fly the party’s flag in the 2027 governorship election.
Adeola, a serving senator, is believed to enjoy strong backing within the party’s structure, setting the stage for what analysts predict could be another fierce contest between the APC and PDP in the state.
With both camps now showing early signs of mobilisation, the battle for Ogun 2027 appears to have quietly begun, with Adebutu’s camp drawing first blood through the launch of its campaign visuals.
