The Lagos State Government has announced temporary traffic diversions across key routes in the state today, Sunday, November 2, 2025, as the much-anticipated Cycology X Itel Tour de Nigeria Cycling Race gets underway from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

In a statement issued by the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the government said the 60-kilometre race—organised by the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) in partnership with Cycology Cycling Club—will commence at Dolphin Loop and move through Osborne Road, Ring Road, Third Mainland Bridge, Iyana Oworo, Gbagada Expressway, Oshodi Oke, and MMIA Underbridge before returning to Dolphin Estate, which also serves as the finishing point.

Osiyemi explained that the temporary diversions are necessary to ensure the safety of participants and smooth conduct of the event. He advised motorists to plan their movements early, make use of designated alternative routes, and exercise patience during the period of the race.

Motorists from Ikeja and adjoining areas heading to Victoria Island, he said, are to use Ikorodu Road through Funsho Williams Avenue to link Eko Bridge and Outer Marina. Similarly, those coming from Lagos–Ibadan Expressway are advised to take Ojota Slip Road through Ikorodu Road and Funsho Williams Avenue to connect Eko Bridge.

He clarified that the Third Mainland Bridge will remain open to motorists travelling between the Mainland and the Island, but movement will be controlled to accommodate the race. Side roads along the race route, he added, will be opened intermittently as the cyclists move forward.

While assuring the public that no road will be completely closed, Osiyemi stated that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Nigeria Police will be strategically positioned to guide motorists, manage traffic, and ensure safety throughout the event.

The commissioner appealed to residents and commuters to remain calm and cooperative, emphasizing that the temporary diversions are part of efforts to promote sports tourism, encourage fitness, and project Lagos as a leading destination for major sporting events in Nigeria.
