Pelumi Olajengbesi, a lawyer and activist from the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency of Osun State, has launched what he calls the Otoge Movement — a campaign aimed at mobilizing volunteers to end the political dominance of Wole Oke, who is currently serving his fifth term in the House of Representatives.

Olajengbesi, who stepped down for Oke in the last election, said the movement seeks to “usher in a new order and a new era” for the people of Ijesa North, insisting that the time has come for a generational shift in leadership.

He announced plans to recruit 100 volunteers from each of the 22 wards in the constituency, totaling 2,200 members, all of whom, he said, will be placed on a salary to support the campaign’s outreach.

“This is not about personal ambition,” Olajengbesi said. “It is about peaceful, strategic sensitization to educate our people that their future is in their hands and that the time for change is now. Enough is enough.”

He accused Oke, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), of neglecting the constituency for over two decades despite repeated electoral support from the people.

According to him, the veteran lawmaker’s record lacks tangible legacy and accountability.

“For over 20 years, the people of Ijesa North placed their trust in Hon. Wole Oke. That trust was repaid with neglect, excuses, and an astonishing absence of meaningful legacy,” Olajengbesi stated. “Now, as our people embrace an era of accountable, people-centered leadership under Governor Ademola Adeleke, Hon. Oke suddenly resurfaces with false bravado and threats of using the Army for election in Oriade/Obokun.”

He emphasized that Osun’s democracy is now guided by the will of the people, not intimidation or political entitlement. “Security institutions belong to the Federal Republic of Nigeria and serve the citizens, not individual politicians,” he said.

Olajengbesi, who is also believed to be seeking the APC ticket for the same seat, declared that the movement is a call to restore dignity, performance, and integrity to public service in the constituency. “Enough is enough. The era of taking Ijesa North for granted is over. Those who seek public trust must earn it through service, capacity, performance, and integrity,” he added.

With Oke’s switch to the APC setting up a possible intra-party showdown, Olajengbesi’s Otoge Movement appears to mark the beginning of a fierce political contest for the soul of Oriade/Obokun ahead of the next general election.
