Forged! INEC Slams Fake Memo Causing Chaos in Ekiti PDP
dismissed a circulating document claiming that the Commission approved the postponement
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has dismissed a circulating document claiming that the Commission approved the postponement of the Ekiti State PDP Congress and governorship primary, describing it as forged and the handiwork of “unscrupulous elements” seeking to mislead the public.
The document, dated November 10, 2025, and purportedly signed by the Secretary to the Commission, had made the rounds across various online platforms on Thursday, sparking confusion within political circles and prompting inquiries about the status of the PDP’s internal process in Ekiti. But INEC, in a statement signed by its Director of Voter Education and Publicity, Mrs. Victoria Eta-Messi, said the memo did not emanate from any of its official channels.
“The said correspondence did not come from the office of the Secretary to the Commission,” Eta-Messi said, adding that preliminary findings showed the signature of the Secretary was forged. She urged the public, political parties and the media to disregard the document in its entirety.
INEC warned that the circulation of false documents poses a serious threat to electoral integrity, stressing that such actions amount to electoral offences. The Commission described the incident as a deliberate attempt to sow confusion in the political process and cautioned those behind it to desist “in the interest of peace.”
The Commission also disclosed that it is working with security agencies to investigate the forgery and ensure that the perpetrators are identified and prosecuted.
The purported memo had triggered speculation within the Ekiti PDP, which is currently preparing for its congress and governorship primary. The clarification from INEC appears aimed at extinguishing rumours of any official directive affecting the party’s schedule.
