Gbenga Obadare Eyes Senate Comeback – Insiders

Insiders in Ogun State’s political circle say former Senator Gbenga Obadare is plotting a return to the National Assembly.

He is said to be targeting the Ogun Central Senatorial seat he lost to Prince Lanre Tejuosho in 2015. Obadare represented the district from 2011 to 2015, while Tejuosho held it from 2015 to 2019.

Former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who earlier served in the Senate from 2003 to 2007, reclaimed the seat in 2019 and held it until 2023, before stepping aside to pursue the APC presidential ticket.

His decision not to re-contest opened the door for the emergence of incumbent Senator Salisu Shuaib, then Chief of Staff to Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Fresh findings, however, indicate Amosun is also eyeing a return, with Obadare’s move seen as part of a broader push to unseat Shuaib, who is seeking another term.

All the key contenders are members of the APC, with Amosun widely regarded as commanding the strongest political structure.
