Details: How 70yr Old Lagos APC Chairman Lost Out In Local Govt Election
Though his party swept the election, Balogun suffered a personal loss
Babatunde Balogun, the 70yr old Chairman of the Lagos state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was one of those that didn’t get what he – personally – wanted in Saturday’s council election.
The election which was held on Saturday, July 24, 2021, ushered him in a new regime of elected Chairmen and Council in the 20 local governments and 37 local council developments areas in Lagos state.
Balogun, a former commissioner for commerce and industry and home affairs and culture was keen to determine the council chairman for Apapa.
But things didn’t go the way of the politician who is most times simply referred to as Tunde Balogun.
“His preferred choice scale through the primary but was disqualified based on intense politicking by those out for Balogun. All attempts to upturn the disqualification till Election Day proved futile” societynow.ng learned.
Balogun reported paid the price of standing firm against those that wanted to play a fast one on others.
“He refused to be used against the interests of the party which included resisting switching names of winners of the primary amongst other things and he paid the price for that” societynow.ng gathered.
Insiders insist that a gang-up by others interested in the Apapa chairmanship slot and others aggrieved by past actions of Balogun resulted in the loss of the APC ticket for the slot by his preferred candidate.
Though his party swept the election, Balogun suffered a personal loss with the inability of his choice to make the list of those who won Saturday’s election societynow.ng learned.
