Emerging details have it that Gboyega Nasir Isiaka, the popular politician from Yewa is not testing water regarding his ambition to succeed Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.

“He will contest, wont step down” insiders insist.

The latest ambition makes it the fourth time Isiaka, better known as GNI, will seek the number one position in Ogun State.

One of the most visible politicians in Ogun West started his political adventure to become Governor of Ogun state in 2011 with the backing of former Governor Gbenga Daniel and ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. He lost the election to Ibikunle Amosun.

GNI also contested the 2015 and 2019 gubernatorial elections and lost to Amosun and Dapo Abiodun respectively.

He was a part of the 2011 and 2015 governorship elections as the flagbearer of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) but he bided in 2019 as the candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

One of the faces of Ogun West shelved his gubernatorial ambition in 2023 for a House of Representatives ticket on the bill of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in an alliance that returned Dapo Abiodun as Governor for a second term.

He won the House of Representatives election to become the face of Egbado North and Imeko-Afon Federal constituency in the National Assembly.

With Abiodun out of contention,- based on stipulation of the constitution – insiders insist Isiaka has resumed his quest to become the Governor of Ogun state and the first from his region since the creation of the state.

And the move is already on” – insiders proclaimed.

He, however, faces a major challenge in Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola who is credited with a more extensive political structure and alliances.

Adeola otherwise known as Yayi is from the same region as GNI.

Yayi was until the 2023 general election, the Senator representing Lagos West but had been an active part of the Ogun political landscape as far back as around 2012.
