With ₦20.7bn Raised, Remi Tinubu Says National Library Fundraiser Remains Open Till Dec
launched in commemoration of her 65th birthday
Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has said the fundraising account for the National Library project launched in commemoration of her 65th birthday will remain open until December 2025.
Speaking during a luncheon with members of the press at the Presidential Villa, the wife of the president expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support towards what she described as a “love project,” not a political one.
She disclosed that the Oluremi@65 Education Fund had so far realised ₦20.7 billion, adding that contributions were still welcome to ensure the long-delayed National Library becomes a reality.
“As a teacher, I understand the value of libraries in shaping young minds, and this national treasure must serve generations to come,” Tinubu said. “This is my little step, my part in building our nation. And I believe Nigerians will do even more to ensure the National Library finally comes to life after decades of delay.”
The First Lady reminded guests that her past birthday anniversaries had also been dedicated to social causes, from completing the National Sickle Cell Foundation to supporting the New Era Foundation.
She acknowledged the generosity of President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, former leaders, governors, lawmakers, business moguls, and well-wishers who had contributed to the current effort.
“Together, we are proving that a drop of water and a grain of sand can indeed make a mighty ocean,” she noted, stressing that the project’s impact would outlive her generation.
Tinubu said the fundraiser was a call to all Nigerians to rally behind education and the future of the country, assuring that every contribution, no matter how small, would count toward the completion of the National Library project.
