In a strategic move to enhance the welfare and physical fitness of its personnel, the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School (NACWS), Giri Abuja, has on Wednesday, 24 September 2025, officially commissioned newly constructed basketball and volleyball courts within the school premises.

This is in line with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) philosophy, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, which prioritises soldier welfare first.

The Special Guest of Honour, Major General Adeleke Adeniyi Ayannuga, who officially commissioned the facilities, thanked the COAS for providing the support and ensuring that the project was completed within a short time. He commended the Commandant of the school for a job well done.

In his keynote address, General Ayannuga praised the initiative as a forward-thinking move by the school Commandant, stating that “Cyber warriors must be physically strong, sharp and operationally ready. These new basketball and volleyball courts are not just for recreation, they are tools for building discipline”.

In his remarks, the Commandant NACWS, Brigadier General Jacob Hassan Bawa, reiterated that the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare School is committed to holistic personnel training; the strength of a soldier is not limited to the keyboard. Physical training remains central to military effectiveness, and these facilities will greatly enhance the training environment he noted.

The commissioning of the sports arena facilities aligns with the Nigerian Army’s commitment to provide infrastructure and welfare for soldiers across its training institutions, reinforcing the cyber capability and traditional military readiness. Additionally, it marked a significant milestone in the school’s ongoing effort to promote a well-balanced and holistic approach to military training, one that blends cyber expertise with physical training.

Also present at the ceremony was the Commander of the Nigerian Army Cyber Warfare Command, Major General Mohammed Tanimu Abdullahi, alongside other Senior Officers and Soldiers. The climax of the event was a group photograph.
