The Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba (Dr) Babatunde Adewale Ajayi, has called for the preservation of Yoruba heritage, traditions and values, saying younger generations must understand and take pride in their cultural roots.

The monarch made the call in his message to sons and daughters of Remoland and the Yoruba people to mark this year’s Isese Day.
Oba Ajayi said the ability to look back at the past and still recognise oneself in inherited values, traditions and ways of life remained deeply meaningful.

“As we mark Isese Day, I join the sons and daughters of Remoland, and indeed the Yoruba people, in honouring our heritage and the ancestral legacy that has helped shape our identity,” he said.

According to him, Yoruba traditions have preserved stories, wisdom, values and memories from one generation to another, while teaching people to respect their elders, cherish their families and stand by their communities.

“Our traditions have carried stories, wisdom, values, and memories from one generation to another. They have taught us to respect our elders, cherish our families, stand by our communities, and understand that we are never truly alone in the journey of life,” the Akarigbo disclosed.

The monarch stressed that preserving cultural heritage should not be seen as an attempt to live in the past, but as a way of equipping future generations with a strong sense of identity.

“For me, the preservation of our heritage is not about living in the past. It is about knowing who we are well enough to face the future with confidence,” he declared.

Oba Ajayi added that children deserved to know the stories of their people, understand the meaning behind their customs and grow up with a sense of pride in their heritage.

He described the preservation of Remoland’s traditions as both a privilege and responsibility, noting that every family, community and generation had a role to play.

“As the Paramount Ruler of Remoland, I consider it a privilege and a responsibility to help preserve the traditions entrusted to us. But the preservation of our heritage is a responsibility we all share. Every family, every community, and every generation has a part to play,” he urged.

The Akarigbo urged Remolanders, wherever they might be, to continue to honour their roots, cherish their identity and pass on a worthy heritage to generations yet unborn.

He wished the people a meaningful Isese Day and prayed for the endurance of their traditions, unity among the people and continued prosperity for Remoland.
