Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri today received a delegation from the National Pension Commission, PenCom, at Government House, Yenagoa, insisting that his administration has prioritised pensions and gratuities payment.
Governor Diri, told the delegation led by Dr. Charles Emukowhate, who represented the Director General of the Commission, that his administration has been clearing inherited pensions and gratuities since 2020 and that through the new reforms, all backlogs of Local Government pensions liabilities have been settled.
The Governor said his administration had proactively amended the state’s 2009 pension law in December 2022 to align with the provisions of the Pension Reforms Act of 2014.
He expressed the state government’s readiness to collaborate with PenCom, the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and the Trade Union Congress, TUC to ensure the smooth implementation and success of the Contributory Pension Scheme in the state.
“We are determined to ensure that workers and retirees receive their entitlements as and when due, without having to seek personal influence”, he said.
