The narratives surrounding the defeat of Governor of Osun state Gboyega Oyetola in his bid to secure a second term in office are far from over.

Oyetola lost the election held on Saturday, July 16, 2022, to Demola Adeleke of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Oyetola who flew the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) secured 375,027 votes against Adeleke’s 403,371 votes.

Despite his open opposition to Oyetola’s re-election, the role of immediate past governor Rauf Aregbesola in the defeat suffered by the ruling party continues to top discussions.

A scenario that played out at Aregbesola’s residence in Ilofin, Ilesha, Osun state on election day is now being magnified as going spiritual against Oyetola.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that though he was not in the state during the election, Akara (beans cake) was given out to all comers.

Emerging details have it that spiritual interpretations are being given to the Akara offering at Aregbesola’s residence on election day.

The spiritual colorations are being painted with the brush of occasions usually associated with the public offerings of Akara .

“It is a cultural thing and It is usually associated with death, the occasion of burial or remembrance of a departed one and or appeasement when something is sought” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added digs revealed that the talks are that the offering of Akara at the residence of Aregbesola – now the Minister of Interior – has obvious denotation and connotations as regards the fate of Oyetola in Saturday’s election.

Oyetola won 13 local government areas while Adeleke won 17 local government areas to be declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC).

Aregbesola has remained silent over Oyetola’s loss after he disowned a message mocking the governor’s fate on his social media handles as “unauthorized” while his loyalists claim “the law of retributory justice” played out.
