Why Dimeji Bankole, Senator Adeola Yayi Are Trending In Ogun

Former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole, and Senator Solomon Adeola who is better known as Yayi are trending in the politics of Ogun state.

They are both riding on the waves of yet-to-be-declared ambitions.

Yayi and Bankole are both chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state.

Talks have erupted that they are both playing a long-term goal of succeeding Dapo Abiodun as the next Governor of Ogun state in 2027 SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Abiodun just won a second term by a slim margin (13,915 votes) in a disputed victory by main challenger Ladi Adebutu of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

The Governor who flew the gubernatorial flag of the APC in Saturday, March 18, 2023, Ogun governorship election is expected to be sworn in for another term on May 29, 2023, and govern till 2027 – if his victory stands against the protests of Adebutu.

Supporters – and political watchers – of Yayi and Bankole are, however, not waiting till then to start permutations about the next governorship election four years away.

Yayi based on his role in the emergence of Abiodun as a first-term governor in 2019 and pivotal play in the disputed slim-margin-second – term – victory has been labeled a strong contender as the next governor of Ogun state until Bankole with a profile to fit alternative was thrown up.

Yayi is operating from a marginalized low votes minority area that needs all the alliance it can get to produce the governor of Ogun state.

His area – Yewa (Ogun West) – has not produced a governor since the state was created in 1976.

Bankole with the proper cultural and political background is from the large vote area of Ogun Central that sees itself as next in line to produce the next Governor of Ogun state.

Two major regions – with stakeholders always backing one another – have produced Ogun governors back-to-back since 1976. They are Ogun East and Ogun Central. Abiodun is from Ogun East and stakeholders in Ogun Central have started preparations to take the usual turn after Abiodun’s two-term – with Bankole being thrown up as a strong possibility.

Senator Yayi is the Lagos Senator who emerged as Ogun West Senator-Elect in the Saturday, February 25, 2023, federal election.

Bankole

Bankole a former House of Representatives member from Ogun central contested the 2019 Ogun state gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP). He announced his entry into the APC with the purchase of a N100M form to contest the party’s presidential ticket last year.

He stepped down in the contest and threw his weight behind President-Elect, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Both Bankole and Yayi supported the re-election of Abiodun as the Governor of Ogun state.
