Former Federal House of Representatives Speaker, Dimeji Bankole’s new role in politics has started yielding dividends.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the 53year old has started getting better recognition about town, particularly in his home state, Ogun.

Bankole was elected as the youngest Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives at the age of 37 in November 2007 while serving as the federal lawmaker representing  Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State from April 2003 to 29 May 2011 (two terms of 4 years each).

He has not been able to replicate the political fame and clout of this period since he left office in 2011.

The lowest point of his engagements in political contests was in 2019 when he contested as the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) in Ogun state.

The former speaker got 9,666 votes in an election Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) won with 241,670 votes while Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) came second with 222,153 votes SocietyNow.Ng learned.

 Bankole, a Master of Public Administration degree from John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, USA (2015) went underground after the dismissal electoral feat to return as a Presidential aspirant for the 2023 election this year on the bill of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He paid the specified one hundred million Naira (N100m) to purchase the form that made him eligible but stepped down from contesting the APC Presidential primary in favor of eventual winner Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The information at hand revealed Bankole’s perceived growing involvement in the campaign to make Tinubu the next president of Nigeria has started getting him recognition here and there, especially Ogun state.

“Tinubu is seen as the frontrunner candidate and more people have started identifying with Bankole as an inner with strong potential to become somebody in the next political dispensation,” SocietyNow.Ng learned.
