Tony Elumelu, the investor and philanthropist has urged a quickened and major action against climate change, one of the biggest threats to Africa.

“We have a dwindling window to address, probably the most significant challenge of our time.” the face of a more viable Africa declared.

The climate crisis, an extreme and widespread shift in weather conditions has resulted in drought, flood, and inevitable famine among other unfavorable happenings.

Elumelu, a front-line champion of a better Africa made his latest call at the Climate Finance Mobilisation Forum in London.

The master entrepreneur with a keen interest in a better tomorrow for all attended the forum aimed at mobilising a new generation capital at the invitation of King Charles III of the United Kingdom and United States of America’s President Joe Biden.

The Forum was convened by a group of global leading philanthropies, companies, and investors SocietyNow.Ng learned.

“I represented Africa and presented our agenda: the urgency for action on Climate Change; the threat to our lives and livelihoods; that Africa must lead the world in driving environmental sustainability. We can no longer be a passive player in an issue that is so central to our present and future.” Elumelu disclosed in a recent post along with pictures from the engagement.

“Africa needs a just, fair, equal and a realistic strategy to address the inequalities that exist between Africa and the rest of the world” he declared and added that “Africa must prioritise the provision of a mix of both traditional and renewable energy, but this cannot be at the expense of the drive to urgently address the Continent’s current energy deficit.”

He insisted that “a Net Zero conversation that ignores, dismisses, or underestimates the continent’s current reality does us all more harm than good.”

The founder of the non-profit organization grooming change makers in different sectors across Africa applauded the timing of the Climate Finance Mobilization Forum, declaring that ” the conversation on climate financing could not have come at a better time.”

He elaborated with the point out that, ” recent trends show a decrease in renewable energy investment to emerging and developing economies. Africa’s green revolution requires urgent, immediate and significant funding – funding that is larger than the resources available to African governments, and private sector. Climate change is a crisis that the countries in Africa did not create, the continent has contributed the least, yet continues to suffer an outsized impact.”

In emphasizing the need for all stakeholders to play their parts in securing an all beneficial solution, Elumelu disclosed “this is why the Tony Elumelu Foundation supports green entrepreneurship and agripreneurship, which play critical roles in driving innovative solutions to environmental issues. “

SocietyNow.Ng confirmed TEF – through the networking of Elumelu – is working with partners like UNICEF Generation Unlimited and IKEA Foundation to limit the impact of the climate crisis across Africa.

“Collectively, we can do better. We must do better. We have a dwindling window to address, probably the most significant challenge of our time. ” the face of positive change in Africa urged.
