shuts thoughts of a backup plan

Senator Ibikunle Amosun has given members of his political family and supporters in Ogun State renewed confidence.

“We are firmly rooted in APC and firmly committed to the party and making a success of it,” Amosun told loyalists and followers at a recent engagement.

APC is the acronym for the ruling political party in Ogun State and the national level – All Progressives Congress.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the declaration by Amosun – the immediate past Governor of Ogun State – shuts thoughts of a backup plan with a second political address ahead of the 2023 general election.

The gathering – a statewide – which held in Abeokuta was part of a consistent review adopted to keep taps on recent happenings within the party and update members on the Amosun political structure’s position.

“SIA (an acronym for Senator Ibikunle Amosun) told the members that the structure is firmly rooted in APC and there is no room for second thoughts. He specifically told them that everything the structure is doing and will plan to do will be achieved with APC and no other party. He was very strong on the message” SocietyNow.Ng.

Abiodun and Amosun

This development comes on the heels of the recent acknowledgment given to Yemi Sanusi, the chairman of the rival faction of the APC in Ogun state backed by Governor Dapo Abiodun by the national leadership of the party.

“I gathered that was discussed and members were given the understanding to take Sanusi’s recognition on face value. That it was cosmetic recognition to avoid flouting electoral law and jeopardize bigger stakes by not holding the party’s national convention within the stipulated time” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The APC National Convention is scheduled for February 26, 2022.

“I think the major takeaway from the meeting is that Amosun stated emphatically that the strong structure is firmly rooted in APC and there is room for thoughts of any alternative arrangement” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Amosun who was an outgoing Governor ahead of the 2019 general election moved some of his men into a rival political party, Allied People’s Movement (APM) over political differences that spiraled out of hand.

The former Governor retained his membership of the APC and won election to the Senate while his followers in APM secured 7 Ogun State House of Assembly seats and a Federal House of Representatives position. The gubernatorial candidate of the APM Adekunle Akinlade (222,153 votes) came a strong second to incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun (241,670).

Senator Amosun moved his men back to the APC and has since consolidated his hold with far-reaching mending of fences over the pre-2019 general election differences.

But the root of the problem, his fight with a friend turned foe Governor Abiodun remains.

Amosun, however, insists ahead of the 2023 general election his political structure firmly remains – rooted and committed – in APC.

“I take that to be a very huge show of confidence and to mean there is something big happening that we don’t know” SocietyNow.Ng.
