Ufuoma Emerhor reaches Out To Less Privileged Children

Sunday, the 6th day of February, 2011 will always be remembered by children at the Jakande- Gbara-Lekki axis of Lagos Island. It was a day Miss Ufuoma Emerhor, daughter of one of Nigeria’s frontline business moguls, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, OON, popularly dubbed “Mr. Turn-around” in the nation’s business circle, decided to actualize her age-long love for helpless, street and vulnerable children through her Care Continuity Challenge Initiative, CCCI. Ufuoma has a dream to reach out to all hopeless children in the above categories across Africa. Her dream to set up an NGO was actualized when in collaboration with Rev. Austin Ezenwa, they agreed to co-found Fair Life Africa Foundation. Rev. Ezenwa has a rich experience working with Rescue Missions in the United States. Olorogun Emerhor is the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Foundation. CCCI, the first initiative of Fair Life Africa, is actually Ufuoma’s vision for street children in Nigeria. She is one person who believes that those children out there should not be abandoned as among them could be Africa’s brightest brains and leaders that could take the continent to the next level if assisted now.

On that Sunday, Ufuoma, a Social Work graduate of Manchester Metropolitan University, United Kingdom and currently doing her national service to her fatherland, hosted 200 of such children in what she dubbed “Fun Feed 6.2.11.” According to her, the children were called out to just feed for fun, to feel loved and taught to always have a belief that they were packaged for greatness. You needed to be around to see pretty Ufuoma forgetting her affluent background relating with the children, dancing and eating as well as sparking off friendly discussions with them. Several friends and well wishers also came to show their support. About 30 volunteers participated to make the event a success.

The event was done in partnership with Link A Child and supported by The Waterbrook Church, Bethesda Child Support of Freedom Foundation and The Tosin Jegede Foundation. It was funded by her body’s CSR partner, Standard Alliance Group.
Ufuoma says there is no looking back anymore as she has promised that her organisation’s Care Continuity Challenge Initiative will soon commence a pilot programme to feed 25 children daily at a marked centre on Lekki Beach Road, Lagos. The centre will be opened in the afternoon for specifically identified street children to come in and have lunch and use the facilities (toilets, showers, laundry room, TV/games room, reading room and play areas). This will run for 90 days while funds are sourced to continue and expand the programme.
