Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the death of celebrated Nollywood actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, describing his passing as a profound loss to Nigeria’s creative community and the millions who cherished his work.
Atiku, in a condolence message, said Hassan was more than a gifted actor, noting that the late thespian used his talent to entertain, educate and inspire positive change in society.
He said the news of Hassan’s death was particularly painful coming only days after the public became aware of his battle with cancer.
“The news of the passing of celebrated Nollywood actor, Alhaji Taiwo Hassan, is deeply saddening,” Atiku said, adding “It is particularly painful that only days after the public became aware of his battle with cancer, we are confronted with the heartbreaking news of his demise.”
Atiku described Hassan as an actor whose remarkable career left an enduring imprint on Nigerian entertainment and society.
“Alhaji Taiwo Hassan was more than a gifted actor,” he said.
“Through a remarkable career, he brought laughter into countless homes, told stories that reflected our society and used his talent not only to entertain but also to educate and inspire social rebirth,” the Presidential candidate stated.
The former Vice President said Hassan’s death had created “a painful void” in Nigeria’s creative industry and among his numerous admirers at home and abroad.
“His passing leaves a painful void in Nigeria’s creative community and in the hearts of the millions who cherished his work,” he said.
Atiku extended his condolences to Hassan’s family, colleagues and admirers, saying he joined them in mourning what he described as a profound loss.
“I join his family, colleagues and admirers in Nigeria and across the world in mourning this profound loss,” he said.
He also prayed for the repose of the late actor’s soul, asking Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him eternal rest.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, comfort his loved ones and grant him eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus. Ameen,” Atiku prayed.
