Nupeng Warning Strike Takes Off Today Amidst Fears Of Possible Petrol Scarcity

The planned warning strike by Nupeng takes off today.

This in face of declaration by Union’s Southwest Zonal Chairman Tokunbo Korodo there will be no going back on the industrial action.

At press time there is no contrary announcement.

The union shifted the warning strike originally planned for December 2016 to January 2017 to provide more room for negotiation with government.

And obviously things didn’t work.
Representatives of Nupeng claim the government failed to engage them within the period of grace.

The warning strike is earmarked to last for a 3 day period – January 11 to 13.

The action is meant to force government to address alleged ill treatment of the union members by multinational oil and gas company and non payment of terminal benefits amongst others.

It is believed all zones of the union nationwide has been mobilised for a successful strike action.

The development comes in face of fears of possible scarcity of petroleum.

The industrial action by Nupeng naturally cripples supply of petroleum products in the country.

A development dealers most times latch on to create scarcity and unofficially forcing up the price of petrol while ‘’black market’’ thrives.
