Why Minister Adelabu’s Guber Ambition Is Getting Stronger Mentions

There are renewed talks about the gubernatorial ambition of the Minister for Power, Adebayo Adelabu.

Adelabu was the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2019 Oyo state gubenratorial election.

He lost the contest to Governor Seyi Makinde who secured a first term in office with the win.

The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria lost the gubernatorial candidate ticket of the party for the 2023 election to Teslim Folarin.

Folarin lost the election to give Makinde his second term in office.

Since the party lost the 2023 election, there have been talks that the APC needs a visible candidate with evident successes to reclaim the Oyo state government from the PDP in 2027.

Sympathizers of the Minister of Power say Adelabu fits the bill with his growing profile at his new task.

Adelabu is handling a pivotal sector and has remained a person of interest across all cadres of living for his actions – especially when they result in public apology like the “Nigerians don’t switch off their freezer” gaffe.

The Power Minister is forcing the Electricity Distribution Companies to “up their game” and provide quality services through a revised billing system meant to extract increased gains for doing their job and sanctions for not meeting up.

Checka, however, revealed at the heart of the stronger mentionings of the Power Minister’s gubernatorial ambition are his – yet to be determined whether conscious or unconscious – overt focus on the performance of distribution companies Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC).

AEDC is in charge of electricity in Abuja, the nation’s seat of power where the movers and shakers of the nation’s fortune operate while IBEDC oversees electricity supply in areas, including Oyo state – where is heavily linked to a gubernatorial ambition.
