“Everybody Is A Spy”, “Unending Demand For Security Fees” – Foreign Based Nigerian’s Experience During Father’s Parent’s Burial In East

Friends of a Nigerian based abroad have shared his experience during his father’s burial in the Eastern part of Nigeria.

The eastern part of Nigeria is currently in the violent clutches of secession agitators.

The agitation has resulted in gruesome encounters with agents of the federal government and the cruel murders of locals seen as not sympathetic to the cause of the agitators.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the bereaved and other members of his family from outside the country were given different sets of demands to meet.

“The most important was that they should not come to the village with any security operative. They were told to come for the burial without any agent of the federal government. The punishment for flouting the directive was death” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added information has it that the bereaved were given a set of security fees to pay and were subjected to increasing demands of other forms of security payments all through their stay.

“They were told that is the norm, you either comply or face the music” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The burial took place in Anambra State according to the information at hand.

SocietyNow.Ng learned that residents in the region who really care about the bereaved and other members of his family quickly alerted them to avoid expressing anti-secession sentiments on arrival because “everybody is a spy”.

“They were strongly warned to be mindful of the sentiments they express, especially on things they don’t like because everybody is a spy and it could have devastating consequences” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

“They urged them to also hide their valuables and take away as much of their property they could take, like cars and other things because they could be seized under any pretext after the burial” added information revealed.

The revealers of the experiences of the bereaved and his family claim the most telling of their experiences is that locals in the region moving to other parts of the country now find it easy to say “I am going to Nigeria”.

“It is a forceful and very violent indoctrination going on in that part of the coutry from what they shared, fortunately, they were able to conclude the burial without any serious threats because they could pay all that was demanded and stuck to the advice given to them” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
