The strict rule in the fight against Covid-19 coupled with the increase in the pump price of Petrol has made a mess of transport fares in Lagos State.
It has simply shot through the roof.
Societynow.ng gathered that the most minimal increase in different routes is a One Hundred percent (100%) increase.
‘’Some are as much as 300 to 400 % increases’’ societynow.ng gathered.
‘’From Alakuko to Oshodi, going and coming, in the buses I used to spend barely N500 (Five hundred Naira) but I spend more than N1,500 ( One Thousand and Five Hundred Naira) now because they take in route in bits and not at a stretch like before’’ a source stated.

The checks made by societynow.ng revealed that these hike in transport fares cut across the different forms of land transportation including, Commercial Motorcycles (Okada), Tricycles (Keke Napep), and the yellow buses (Danfo),
These operators fall under the banner of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) with Musiliu Akinsanya – better known as MC Oluomo – as the Chairman of the Lagos state chapter.
‘’The hike in transport fares started when the government ordered transporters to take limited numbers of passengers to give room for a bit of distancing as part of the fight against Covid-19, the transporters simply increased the fare per person to cover for the shortfall’’ societynow.ng learned.
The information at hand revealed that the increased in the pump price of petrol from N143 To N151 but sold at N162 by petrol stations resulted in another increase in transport fares.
Insiders disclosed that the effect of this development has resulted in increasing outcry from commuters for the Lagos State Government to intervene.

‘’Because what is happening is that the Transporters call fares on the perceived desperation of passengers based on the numbers at the Bus stops and struggle to board’’ societynow.ng learned
Sources disclosed that a look in the direction of Musiliu Akinsanya, the Chairman of the NURTW in Lagos State better known as Oluomo as a way out has been taken by the Government.
Societynow.ng gathered that the strategy being considered by the state is to get MC Oluomo to make the transporters reduce the arbitrary increase in fares to ‘’a reasonable one’’.
Societynow.ng confirmed that the way the NURTW is organized, the word of the State Chairman is an irrefutable law.
The three good freinds incharge of the Lagos NURTW are Chairman MC Oluomo ( Musiliu Akinsanya), Deputy Chairman Kudety formerly Kudeleti (Sulaimon Ojora) and Treasurer Seego (Mustapha Adekunle).
