Until recently, Fishes were a very affordable food supplement. Chicken, Beef, and the rest of the meat family were considered expensive and for the rich.

But the situation has changed.  Fishes and meat have become expensive for the common man.

And the new Lagos state commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Dayo Alebiosu has provided reasons for the anomaly as well as the architects of the misfortune.

The people’s person famously known as a thoroughbred federal Legislator identified the activities of illegal dredgers as the major cause.

The illegal Dregders are people sourcing sands from the inter and intra-state waters without following laid down guidelines and care for effects on the environment including aquatic life.

Explaining how the nefarious actions of the illegal dredgers whose objectives are either to fraudulently reclaim land or stockpile sand for sale, contribute to the rising prices of fish – Alebiosu pointed out that ” because every time you dredge you are killing the microorganism which is food for fish on the waterbed and you are also disturbing aquatic life. And when it is done constantly, you have the fish moving away and the fishermen would have to do a lot more to get more”.

Added information revealed that this development is the cause of the scarcity that continues to push the price of fish beyond the common man.

The grounded politician, with successful private businesses as his second address including an architecture firm, made the eye-opening revelation in a recent appearance as a guest on Channels Television.

Independent findings showing that compared to a Kilo of frozen chicken that costs about N1,450, that of Titus fish is pegged at ₦3,800 while Kote fish (Horse Mackerel) goes for ₦2,000 affirm the Commissioner’s position.

The disciple of training on Leadership and Decision Making, and Personal Development – with certifications to his name from Harvard University and The Coaching Academy London -did not just point out the problem but also disclosed efforts to resolve the situation.

Alebiosu explained that an enforcement process is on to regulate the activities of illegal dredgers and ensure they follow all laid-down procedures that protect the environment, including aquatic life.

D’Bush, as he is popularly known at the grassroots, further disclosed that part of the steps to put a solution in place is the knee-deep-on-the-spot assessments that have decorated his world since he took office.
