2027: Aregbesola Tells How ADC Is Faring In South-West
strengthening its structures and expanding its grassroots presence
Rauf Aregbesola, national secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), says the party is strengthening its structures and expanding its grassroots presence across the south-west ahead of the 2027 general election.
Speaking at the party’s south-west stakeholders’ meeting held at Kankanfo Inn, off Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo state, Aregbesola said the gathering reaffirmed the ADC’s “strength, unity, and growing readiness” across the six states of the region.
He said reports presented by state chairmen showed the depth of the party’s organisational framework and its widening grassroots reach.
“I was encouraged by the reports presented by our state chairmen, which reflected the depth of our structures, our expanding grassroots reach, and the organisational stability of the party,” he said.
The meeting also featured the formal inauguration of the ADC south-west leadership and recognition of party officers serving at the national level.
Those acknowledged include Akinbolawale Omole, national vice chairman; Captain Tunji Shelle, national director of communication and programmes; Professor Bode Ayorinde, diversity and inclusion secretary; Fabiyi Oladimeji, deputy national financial secretary; Alhaja Khafilat Omolabake Olayiwola, deputy national women leader; Olufemi Adeleye, deputy coordinator, diaspora; and Mrs Yidiat Omolara Oseni, assistant national organising secretary.
Aregbesola urged party officials and stakeholders to remain disciplined and united, while working closely with the national leadership to strengthen and harmonise party structures across the zone.
He declared that the ADC remains committed to building what he described as a credible and people-oriented political alternative for Nigerians.
Aregbesola, a former governor of Osun state and ex-minister of interior, was previously a prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a longtime political ally of President Bola Tinubu, dating back to their collaboration during Tinubu’s tenure as governor of Lagos state.
His political journey within the progressive movement helped shape party organisation in the south-west before his eventual shift to the ADC, where he now plays a central role in repositioning the party ahead of the next electoral cycle.
