Why Talks Of Amosun’s Senatorial Return Refuse To Die Down
they are, in fact, gaining momentum.
Talks of a planned return of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun to the Senate have refused to fade — they are, in fact, gaining momentum.
“It has become one of the reigning topics in Ogun politics,” insiders say.
Sources revealed that the former governor’s loyalists are actively spreading the claims, now amplified by allies and sympathizers.
Amosun, who represented Ogun Central in the Senate from 2019 to 2023, declined to seek re-election, opting instead to pursue the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket.

He later stepped down for Bola Tinubu, mobilizing support that contributed to Tinubu’s emergence as the APC flagbearer and eventual president.
His withdrawal cleared the path for Salisu Afolabi Shuaib, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Chief of Staff, to become Senator for Ogun Central. But insiders now insist Salisu may serve only one term, with Amosun reportedly preparing to reclaim the seat.
At the core of the renewed alignment is the belief that Amosun is playing a strategic role in President Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid those who should know insist.
Once a key powerbroker under the Buhari administration, Amosun’s deep ties with northern political blocs and his control of one of Ogun’s four major political structures are said to be fueling speculations of his comeback.
