Why Ladi Adebutu’s Personal Assistant Asaolu Gafar Is Trending

There is a new person on the lips of many in Ogun State, particularly within the political circle.

He is Asaolu Gafar, the personal assistant to serial gubernatorial candidate Ladi Adebutu.

Asaolu was arrested in connection with allegations of violence that trailed the Saturday, November 16, 2024, Ogun State local government elections.

However, the development has spiraled into major talking points based on the finger-pointing trailing it.

Trading accusations that have become a thing of public interest are loyalists of Ladi Adebutu and those of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Adebutu is the face of the main opposition political party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), while Abiodun is ruling as Governor on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Abiodun and Adebutu are from the same area, Iperu, in the Remo region of Ogun East Senatorial District.

They are both enmeshed in an intense political rivalry that has seen Abiodun get the best of Adebutu in two gubernatorial elections (2019 and 2023) and the November 16 local government election won by the APC across the state.

Adebutu led the PDP campaign for the council election.
