Tinubu Outlines Vision For A Prosperous New Year
pledging transformative reforms, economic stability
As the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2025, Nigerians welcomed the New Year with hopes of brighter days ahead. In a heartfelt address to the nation, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu outlined his vision for a prosperous Nigeria, pledging transformative reforms, economic stability, and a renewed sense of patriotism among citizens.
Reflecting on the past year, President Tinubu acknowledged the challenges faced by Nigerian households in 2024. Despite global and domestic hurdles, the nation had achieved significant progress. He highlighted several economic milestones, including a gradual decline in fuel prices, three consecutive quarters of foreign trade surpluses, rising foreign reserves, and the strengthening of the naira. The Nigerian Stock Exchange had recorded historic growth, creating trillions of naira in wealth. However, the President did not shy away from admitting that the high cost of food and essential medicines remained a pressing concern for many families.
Determined to tackle these issues, President Tinubu announced bold initiatives for 2025. One of the administration’s key priorities is reducing inflation from 34.6% to 15%. To achieve this, the government plans to boost agricultural production and local manufacturing of essential drugs. “With diligent work and God’s help, we will provide relief to all our people,” Tinubu assured Nigerians.
In addition, the President unveiled plans to improve access to credit for individuals and critical sectors of the economy. The centerpiece of this effort is the establishment of the National Credit Guarantee Company, a public-private partnership designed to expand risk-sharing instruments for financial institutions and enterprises. Scheduled to commence operations by mid-year, the company aims to empower underserved groups such as women and youth, stimulate growth, and improve living standards.
On the social front, President Tinubu emphasized the need for renewed patriotism and ethical values among Nigerians. In the first quarter of the year, his administration will launch the National Values Charter, a framework to foster trust, cooperation, and shared commitment between the government and citizens. A nationwide orientation campaign will promote unity, loyalty, and love for the country.
Youth inclusiveness also featured prominently in the President’s address. The Youth Confab, slated for early 2025, will provide a platform for young Nigerians to contribute to nation-building. “The youth are the bedrock of our future,” Tinubu stated, affirming his administration’s dedication to investing in the next generation.
Acknowledging the vital role of state and local governments, President Tinubu urged governors and council chairpersons to collaborate with the central government in harnessing opportunities in agriculture, livestock, and tax reforms. He commended states adopting innovative energy solutions, such as Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles, pledging federal support for such initiatives.
In his closing remarks, President Tinubu expressed gratitude for the trust and sacrifices of Nigerians over the past 19 months of his administration. He assured citizens that their efforts would not be in vain and reaffirmed his commitment to building a prosperous, united Nigeria.
“As we embark on this journey together, let us stay focused and united. The New Year will bring us closer to the bright future we all desire and the Nigeria of our dreams,” the President concluded.
With optimism and determination, Nigerians stepped into 2025, inspired by the promise of progress and the unwavering hope for a better tomorrow.
