Days after what has been labeled his most pronounced birthday celebration since leaving political office, Ibikunle Amosun remains a talking point in the political circles of Ogun State.

Discussions about the former Senator representing Ogun Central (2019 to 2023) are deepening claims that he has fully reawakened his political structure.

Amosun’s 67th birthday on Saturday, January 25, 2025, was marked by torrential well-wishes across traditional and social media platforms, with a private party at his Lagos residence climaxing the celebration.

The interest generated by this year’s birthday of the former Governor of Ogun State (May 29, 2011, to May 29, 2019) is unrivaled since he left political office in 2023.

“The noise around Amosun’s birthday was big. It has been taken in political circles that he has fully reactivated his political group ahead of the 2027 election,” sources say.

The convergence of the former Governor’s top men, including former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly—and one-time commissioner—Muyiwa Oladipo, along with others who served in his administration, like Bola Gbeleye (also a former Deputy Speaker), Teju Kareem, and Adeleke Adewolu, at his birthday get-together also fueled discussions, adding plenty of political undertones.

And its standing is so rated that the former Senator is affirmed as no pushover in deciding who becomes what in the politics of Ogun State, particularly in the next political dispensation.

There is a lot of interest in his actions and political leanings ahead of the 2027 election because he is not on the same page with Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Abiodun leaves office in 2027—after two terms totaling eight years—and is keen to have a say in who becomes his successor.
