The Police Service Commission (PSC) has warned Nigerians to disregard a flurry of fake online recruitment portals falsely claiming that the Commission has commenced a fresh police recruitment exercise.

The alert comes amid a noticeable rise in fraudulent schemes typically targeted at jobseekers during the festive period.

In a statement signed by Torty Njoku Kalu, Head of Protocol and Public Affairs, the Commission described the circulating recruitment notices as “fake and entirely misleading,” stressing that they are the handiwork of scammers hoping to exploit unsuspecting citizens. The PSC maintained that no recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force is currently underway and cautioned the public against engaging with any unofficial portals shared on social media or unverified websites.

The Commission reiterated that all genuine recruitment announcements will be made only through established official channels such as national newspapers, its verified website, and authorised press statements. It urged Nigerians to rely solely on these sources to avoid falling victim to online fraud. “Any purported recruitment portal not published on the Commission’s official website is fraudulent and should be reported to the police,” the PSC stated.

With the holiday season approaching—a period often marked by increased digital scams—the Commission emphasised the importance of vigilance. The warning aligns with previous trends where fraudsters take advantage of heightened job searches and financial pressures to lure citizens into paying for non-existent opportunities.

The PSC urged members of the public to exercise caution, verify all information before responding to recruitment claims, and promptly report suspicious platforms or individuals involved in such fraudulent activities.
