Osun Guber: Adeleke Gives Condition To Seek Another Term Under PDP
was cleared without reservations.
Governor Ademola Adeleke may only seek re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) if the internal crisis troubling the party’s national leadership is resolved within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timeline, the Osun State chapter of the party has said.
At a press briefing in Osogbo, Sunday Bisi, state chairman of the PDP, said Adeleke had fulfilled every requirement set by the party for its 2026 governorship primaries but is reconsidering his participation due to the leadership tussle that has stalled critical pre-primary processes.
Bisi disclosed that the governor purchased and submitted the nomination forms within the window of October 13 to 25, appeared before the screening committee on October 30, and was cleared without reservations.
He described Adeleke as the sole aspirant who completed the process in line with the party’s official timetable.
But the chairman said the suspension and counter-suspension of key national officers—officials statutorily responsible for conducting primaries and transmitting names to INEC—created uncertainty that crippled preparations for the poll. The inability to hold ward and local government congresses scheduled for November 24 and 29, he said, made it impossible to elect delegates for the primaries.
“With the issues now before several courts across the country, the governorship primaries slated for December 2 can no longer hold,” he said.
According to Bisi, Adeleke’s decision to continue with his aspiration is now tied to the resolution of the national leadership crisis. He stressed that unless a settlement recognised by INEC emerges within the commission’s deadline, the governor may not seek the PDP ticket for 2026.
He assured party members and residents that leaders at both state and national levels are working tirelessly to restore order and deliver a lawful and workable path forward.
“We owe our members and the good people of Osun State transparency,” Bisi said, adding that the party will continue to keep the public informed as developments unfold.
