during a series of high-level engagements
Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State on Thursday advanced discussions on cultural exchange and economic collaboration during a series of high-level engagements at Milan Design Week 2026 in Italy.
At the Fondazione Luciana Matalon, located at Foro Buonaparte, the Governor met with the President of the Foundation, Dr. Nello Taietti, where both parties explored opportunities to strengthen cultural ties between Ogun State and Italy. The meeting focused on projecting African creativity, heritage, and artistic excellence onto the global stage, while laying the groundwork for a sustained cultural partnership.
Speaking on the significance of the engagement, Governor Abiodun emphasized the importance of building enduring cultural bridges that connect African heritage with global audiences, noting that Ogun State remains committed to positioning its cultural assets as tools for international collaboration and economic growth.
Later in the day, the Governor attended The Rock That Remembers exhibition at the Artnovation platform, held at Piazza Emilio Alfieri. The exhibition showcased the story of Olumo Rock, the iconic granite formation in Abeokuta, presenting it to an international audience of designers, investors, and cultural leaders as a symbol of African identity and historical depth.
As part of the programme, Governor Abiodun also participated in a fireside chat themed “From Culture to Economy,” where he highlighted the role of culture as a catalyst for development. He outlined Ogun State’s vision for cultural tourism and underscored the potential of strategic partnerships between Africa and Europe in driving innovation, investment, and shared prosperity.
The engagements formed part of Ogun State’s broader efforts to position its cultural heritage as a key contributor to economic development, while strengthening its presence on the global cultural and creative landscape.
