ODCHC Enrols 300 Residents Orange Health Insurance Scheme-Informal
towards achieving Universal Health Coverage
The Ondo State Contributory Health Commission (ODCHC), in its sustained drive towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC) for all residents of the state, has successfully enrolled over 300 residents into the Orange Health Insurance Scheme-Informal.
The enrolment exercise was carried out during a free medical outreach organised by the family of the late Oba Festus Ibidapo Adedinsewo Adesanoye, held in his remembrance on Saturday, 24th January,2026 at the Osemawe’s Palace, Ondo.
Speaking on the initiative, the Director-General of ODCHC, Dr. Abiodun Oyeneyin, said the exercise, implemented in partnership with the Oba. Adesanoye family, was aimed at expanding health insurance coverage and ensuring that more residents of the state have access to quality and affordable healthcare services.
Dr. Oyeneyin, who was represented by the Director of Business Development and Client Relations, Mrs Ibitoye Aderonke, explained that the Orange Health Insurance Scheme is designed to cater for all residents of Ondo State, irrespective of age, tribe or location. He noted that beneficiaries of the exercise who are Ondo indigenes were drawn from Ondo East, Ondo West, and Odigbo/Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Areas.
Describing the gesture by the Oba Adesanoye family as commendable, the Director-General said, “The family in partnership with the Commission paid for 150 individuals from age 40years and above, while the Ondo State Government matched the number, bringing the total beneficiaries to 300.”
He further disclosed that individuals who could not be accommodated under the family-sponsored slots would be enrolled under the Vulnerable Persons Scheme, supported through the Federal Government’s Basic Health Care Provision Fund Programme (BHCPFP).
According to Dr Oyeneyin, the Ondo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has remained consistent in paying its counterpart funding, thereby ensuring that vulnerable groups are adequately covered. He revealed that over 82,000 vulnerable persons are currently enrolled under the BHCPFP across the state.
On the commission’s broader efforts to achieve universal health coverage, the Director-General said ODCHC is strengthening partnerships with philanthropists, political office holders, associations and other critical stakeholders. He added that the commission is also working closely with media organisations to intensify public awareness and encourage residents to enrol in the scheme.
“With sustained partnerships and effective public engagement, we are confident of meeting our targets and achieving universal health coverage in Ondo State,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the Adesanoye family, Dr Olumide Amos Oluwole said the medical outreach and insurance enrolment were part of activities marking the 20th year remembrance of the late monarch, aimed at positively impacting the lives of the people of Ondo. “As the saying goes, health is wealth. Our priority is to ensure that the people are healthy, paying ₦18,000 per person for a policy year is a practical way of supporting the people and preventing out-of-pocket medical expenses” he stated.
He explained that the initiative was executed in partnership with the Ondo State Government through the Ondo State Contributory Health Commission, describing the scheme as laudable and timely. He urged residents to take advantage of the affordable premium and invest in their health.
Some of the beneficiaries also expressed appreciation for the initiative.
Speaking with journalists, Mr Ogedengbe Godwin, an enrollee who is almost 70 years old, lauded the state government’s health insurance scheme and thanked the Oba Adesanoye family for the partnership.
“Quality healthcare will no longer be for the rich alone; it will now be accessible to all residents,” he said.
