Major Trouble For Dapo Abiodun?…Senator Lekan Mustapha Under Pressure To Contest As Next Gov Of Ogun State

Details available to societynow.ng have it that political opponents of Governor Dapo Abiodun within the All Progressives Congress have fashioned out how to deal with him.

Insiders disclosed that they are pushing for another party chieftain to wrest the APC gubernatorial ticket in Ogun State for the 2023 gubernatorial election from him.

The party chieftain  being pressured to move against Governor Abiodun – who is believed to be eyeing another term in office – is Senator Lekan Mustapha.

Societynow.ng gathered the choice of Senator Mustapha is strategic.

”He is from the Ijebu axis as Abiodun and his choice is to help protect the large votes from the area when the ticket won. Limiting Abiodun to a single term and picking his replacement from another zone would cause problems for the party, especially if the main opposition party picked its candidate from Ijebu. And there is the unspoken arrangement that the deal is that Ijebu would produce a governor for two-terms when Abiodun was elected, just like the Egbas did with Amosun” societynow.ng learned.

More revelation available has it that move against Abiodun is rooted in allegations that he has not ”rewarded” the different factions that helped him to power, except the Yayi group (Senator Solomon Adeola) and gave ”appointments” to his friends in the name of bringing in technocrats to fill other slots.

Insiders disclosed to societynow.ng that at the forefront of the push against Dapo Abiodun are ”members from different parties that joined hands to help him become the governor of Ogun state and defected to APC as a sign of loyalty”.

Societynow.ng gathered that they are joined in the move by fragments of ”original” APC members from different caucuses who feel sidelined as well.

”The majority of them are very bitter. They feel used and dumped and have decided to shape their fortune by sponsoring someone they believe would treat them better to power” societynow.ng learned.

The checks by societynow.ng, however, revealed that this development is outside attempts by Senator Ibikunle Amosun – in his unrelenting opposition – to install his loyalist as the Governor of Ogun State.

”The implication of this development, if it is not quickly redressed, is that Abiodun would face a political onslaught from two major fronts – those that helped him to power and ferocious opposition from Amosun that he failed to thwart convincingly, even with his ”team” intact.
