Gbenga Daniel Resumes 2nd Term Posturing After Truce With Abiodun
exchanged greetings and shared a near-embrace.
Ogun East Senator, Gbenga Daniel, is back to positioning himself for a second term—following the suspension of his political fight with Governor Dapo Abiodun.
Daniel and Abiodun met on Friday, May 2, 2025, and, for the first time in a long while, exchanged greetings and shared a near-embrace.
The development, labeled a “suspension” of their prolonged political feud, occurred at the welcome-home reception for Oluwatoyin Shakirat Madein, the former Accountant General of the Federation.

Before their Friday encounter, the two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) had avoided sharing public spaces.
Their rift reached a peak with the partial demolition of a newly constructed high-rise property belonging to Olufunke, the wife of Senator Daniel by the Ogun State Government over alleged “environmental infractions”—an action Governor Abiodun defended by insisting that nobody is above the law.
The feud was further intensified by claims that the Governor plans to take over the Ogun East Senatorial seat from Daniel, who is quietly working toward securing a second term.
Talks about Daniel’s ambition, coupled with supporters from both camps touting their principals’ achievements in the senatorial district, had heightened political tension in the zone—until Friday’s meeting, which helped calm nerves.

However, checks reveal that Senator Daniel and his team resumed positioning for a second term on Tuesday, May 6, 2025—demonstrating they remain committed to achieving this political objective.
A circulated material, “Otunba Gbenga Daniel Redefines Representation in Ogun East Senate”, which outlines the achievements of the former two-term governor in his current role, serves as supporting evidence of this renewed effort.
