The Federal Fire Service, in collaboration with the FCT Fire Service, has successfully contained a fire outbreak at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD), Idu, Abuja, thereby saving property valued at approximately ₦990,000,000.

The fire incident, caused by an electrical surge, was reported at about 06:34 hours on Monday, 26th January, 2026, when Sgt. Mohammed promptly contacted the Federal Fire Service Control Room.

Upon receipt of the distress call, a crew from the Federal Fire Service Headquarters, led by DSF Bolaji, was immediately deployed as first responders to combat the fire outbreak on the top floor of the building. Due to the magnitude of the incident and the potential risk of escalation, a water tender and crew from the FFS Dei-Dei Station were also deployed to reinforce firefighting operations, while the FCT Fire Service arrived at the scene to support the response.

Although firefighting operations lasted close to two hours, the timely emergency call played a critical role in mitigating damage. Approximately 99 percent of the affected property, valued at ₦990 million, was successfully salvaged.

The Federal Fire Service reiterates its unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and assures the public of its readiness to respond promptly to fire and rescue emergencies nationwide.
