Details: Tokunbo Afikuyomi Fingered In Lagos Assembly Crisis

Tokunbo Afikuyomi, the former Senator has been fingered in the crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Insiders finger Afikuyomi as the ”strategists” behind virtually all the moves of embattled Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Obasa is battling mounting allegations of corruptions and he accuses estranged mentor Bayo Osinowo – a former lawmaker in Lagos State but now a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria – as the architect of the sprouting corruption allegations.

Obasa’s travails started when he orchestrated the demoting principal officers of the Lagos State House of Assembly believed to be ”excessively” loyal to Osinowo who is better known as Pepper.

Pepper was the most influential shot-caller in the Lagos State House of Assembly before got elected as a Senator, Obasa decided to assert his independence by removing Pepper’s loyalists from positions of influence by demoting the Principal Officers.

The move, however, resulted in the emergence of corruption allegations against the speaker, a situation which is believed to have been hijacked by those out for Obasa – particularly former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.Ambode was limited to a single term in office and was almost impeached from due to a ”political upheaval” in which Obasa played a leading role against the former governor.

Insiders disclosed that the situation transformed into an unexpected mess, Obasa now relies heavily on the counsel of Afikuyomi to get out of the situation.

Sources claim Obasa hopes to use  Afikuyomi’s closest to Asiwaju Bola  Ahmed to replace the access he lost by cutting ties with Osinowo.

”The belief is that Afikuyomi has warmed his way back into the heart of Tinubu and Obasa wants to catch it on that to ensure the retains the support of Tinubu while he puts out the fires of the raging allegations of corruption against him” societynow.ng learned.

”So for now, he listens to the counsel of Afikuyomi in bid to retain his confidence and leverage the former Senator’s clouts in boosting his influence with Tinubu” a source stated.

Insiders disclosed that Obasa is leaning heavily on support from Afikuyomi to neutralize increasing pressure on Tinubu – as primary shot caller – to allow the ruling All Progressives Congress, the State House of Assembly and others stakeholders to ”disown” the situation and allow for ”proper investigation” into the allegations against Obasa.
