Details As Police Expand Operations In Ogun State
strengthening community policing and rapid response
The Ogun State Police Command has expanded its operational footprint with the commissioning of a new Area Command, two Divisional Headquarters, a Police Post, and additional operational assets aimed at strengthening community policing and rapid response across the state.
The expansion, described as a significant boost to grassroots security architecture, was achieved through collaboration between the state government, traditional institutions, corporate bodies and host communities.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, commissioned the Ijebu Igbo Area Command and its Divisional Headquarters. The ceremony was attended by the Secretary to the State Government, Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, and several traditional rulers and community leaders.
The Orimolusi of Ijebu Igbo, Oba Lawrence Jayeoba Adebajo, was commended for mobilising community support for the project, while stakeholders also donated a patrol van to enhance operational efficiency.
With the development, the Ijebu Igbo Area Command now comprises five divisions — Ijebu Igbo, Ago Iwoye, Awa Ijebu, Oru Ijebu and Atan Ijebu — a structure the command said would improve coordination, intelligence sharing and police visibility in the axis.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Police commissioned the Afon Divisional Headquarters under the Imeko Area Command.
The event was attended by Oba Benjamin Olunite Oyeditan, the Onimeko of Imeko; Oba Abdul-Rasheed Adewaare Akande, the Obaladi of Afon Land; community leaders and local government representatives.
A patrol van was also handed over to support field operations.
In a separate ceremony, the CP commissioned the Japara Police Post in the presence of the SSG and other dignitaries. According to the command, the post is expected to “extend security coverage to underserved communities, enhance rapid response, improve community policing and strengthen intelligence gathering”.
The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), led by State Chairman Venerable Samson Popoola, participated in all the commissioning ceremonies, underscoring what the command described as a “strong partnership between the police and stakeholders”.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner of Police expressed appreciation to the Ogun State Government and other partners for their support.
He said the command remains committed to “proactive, intelligence-led and community-focused policing”, urging officers to uphold professionalism and ensure that the newly commissioned facilities and assets are effectively deployed for the protection of lives and property across the state.
