Behind The Scene, As Dapo Abiodun’s Govt Asks Suspended Council Bosses To Resume Office days To End Of Tenure
Charles Oyelesi
The government of Governor Dapo Abiodun has ordered suspended council chairmen in Ogun state to resume at their duty posts.
This development comes three days to the end of the council bosses’ tenure on Wednesday, October 9, 2019.
The council chairmen were suspended in June 2019 just days after Abiodun was sworn in as governor, and an embargo placed on spending by all local governments through a resolution made by the Ogun state House of Assembly.
The new administration made the move as part of efforts to have a firm grip on the situation on hand, especially in the face of allegations that immediate past governor Ibikunle Amosun left ‘’financial land mines’’.

Societynow.ng, however, gathered that the Abiodun administration paid the salaries of all the suspended council chairmen to date and met the financial needs of the local government councils.
‘’The administration also continues the practice of taking charge federal allocations meant for the local government’’ societynow.ng learned.
An insider confirmed that the decision to recall the suspended council chairmen was made by a resolution of the Ogun State House Assembly.
The decision which became public late Thursday, October 3, 2019 reads
”HOUSE RESOLUTION
*H.R No 043/OG/2019*
Ogun House of Assembly hereby restore ALL Local government Political Office Holders back to their former positions”.
The checks made by societynow.ng, however, revealed that none of the suspended chairmen reported for duty on Friday, October 4, 2019.
The information at hand revealed that the council chairmen are still mulling whether to resume and write their handover notes and officially exit office on Wednesday, October 9 or explore actions that would extend their tenure by challenging their suspension.
‘’Though I foresee the fact that they got their salaries while on suspension working heavily against any protest’’ a source offered.
