Adebutu Extends Condolences To Family Over Fearless Advocate Of Democracy, Adebanjo’s Death

The 2023 gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State, Hon. (Dr) Oladipupo Adebutu, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Chief Ayo Adebanjo, leader of the Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere.
In a statement released by his media aide, Afolabi Orekoya, Hon. Adebutu described Chief Adebanjo as a fearless advocate for democracy and a symbol of integrity in Nigeria’s political history.
Adebutu noted that Chief Adebanjo, who began his political journey in 1943 and later aligned with the ideals of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, remained steadfast in his pursuit of true federalism, free education, and social welfare.
He acknowledged Chief Adebanjo’s sacrifices, including his exile during the Action Group crisis and his pivotal role in NADECO, where he stood firm against military rule following the annulment of the June 12, 1993, election.
_”Chief Ayo Adebanjo was a pillar of progressive politics, a man of unshakable principles who dedicated his life to the betterment of Nigeria. His commitment to restructuring and justice set him apart as a true statesman,”_ Adebutu remarked.
He further commended Chief Adebanjo’s disciplined lifestyle and unwavering consistency, noting that while he may not have received national honours, he earned the deep respect and admiration of Nigerians for his lifelong dedication to good governance.
Hon. Adebutu extended his heartfelt condolences to Chief Adebanjo’s 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and associates praying for strength and comfort for the family during this difficult time.
He concluded that Chief Adebanjo’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those who believe in justice, fairness, and the true ideals of democracy.
