Why They Say Bimbo Ashiru Has Better Chance Than Gbenga Daniel To Become Ogun Senator

Those who should know say that there are strong indications that Ramoni Lekan Mustapha, the Senator representing Ogun East will let go of his seat.
The Senator is decorated with talks of gubernatorial ambition.
Two names have been thrown up as likely replacements within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the clout to take over.
They are former Governor Gbenga Daniel and ex-commissioner Bimbo Ashiru.
Societynow.ng, however, gathered that though Daniel has a stronger political influence and reach, Ashiru is said to be better positioned to emerge the winner.
“It is more about the arrangement on the ground which favors Ashiru. In that axis, political offices are shared between the Ijebus and the Remos. Governor Abiodun (Dapo) is a Remo man while Senator Mustapha (Lekan) is from Ijebu. You can’t have the two top positions in the same zone. The only way Daniel will get the senatorial ticket of Ogun East is if it has been decided and actualized Governor Abiodun won’t get a second term, but as things stand his second term looks very sure and this plays to Ashiru getting the Senatorial ticket of the APC and in a good position to become Senator” societynow.ng learned.
The general perception in the Ijebu East is that with formidable Kashamu Buruji out of the picture and in-fighting over who is in charge crippling his party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, the APC should have an easy win.
Though supporters continue to throw up their names as the possible successor of Senator Mustapha come 2023 both Gbenga Daniel and Bimbo Ashiru that played worthy roles in the “enthronement” of the Dapo Abiodun administration have maintained sealed lips about their political ambitions.
Ashiru presently a Director at the Odua Group was a front runner in the race to determine the Governor of Ogun state in 2019 until fate handed the position to Dapo Abiodun in the 11th hour.

There are also talks that Lekan Mustapha, even if he chose to retain his senatorial ticket may be blocked by Governor Abiodun and his backers who see him as “disloyal”.
